MSL Academic Support, Fall 2010 Programs

First-Year Support:

Welcome to MSL, 1L's!

Take advantage of the resources we’re offering to help you navigate the first year of law school. The Academic Support office has the following programs in place to help you through the first year:

 1L Seminars focusing on first-year study skills, writing skills, and exam skills. (Held during your regularly scheduled writing classes—mandatory attendance!)

Topic: Outlining and Organizing Essential Information
Monday, Sept. 13th (during your writing class)

Topic: Study Skills, Tools and Resources
Monday, Oct. 18th (during your writing class)

Topic: Exam Skills
Wednesday, Nov. 24th (during your writing class)

 Exam Skills Seminars: Help with outlining, note-taking, exam-taking, and reading and writing skills, including practice essay exams with immediate feedback.

 Workshops: Substantive help with your first-year courses
o Your professors will announce workshops, led by your professors’ teaching assistants. Check with your professor(s) for dates, times and further information!

 ASP 1L Drop-in Hours: The time to ask questions, find out about academic resources, and get help with academics.
o Saturdays 8 – 11 AM and by appointment

 Midterm and Final Exam Reviews—ASP tips and techniques, advice from upper-level students, practice tests, and free food!
o Save the Date: SBA/Academic Support Midterm Exam Review on Saturday, 10/2 at 11 AM
o Save the Date: SBA/Academic Support Final Exam Review on Saturday, 11/20 at 11 AM

 Guided Study Groups: Sign up and get bi-weekly help and resources for your study group

 Special events
o Save the Date: MSL/Mass Bar Association Young Lawyer Career Conference
Thurs 9/23 from 4 – 7 PM
Networking reception to follow at 7 PM!

 Individual tutoring and peer-to-peer mentoring programs

o First-year tutoring (stop by Academic Support for a formal evaluation and to make an appointment)
o First-year peer mentoring program—sign up to be matched with an upper-level student mentor!
